SBS is a thriving non-professional orchestra with over 65 members, performing a wide range of music including major symphonic works and concertos with professional soloists.

Apart from playing excellent music to very high standards, the objectives of the orchestra include fund-raising for St Mary's Hospice. Costs of rehearsals, etc., are borne by the membership through subscriptions, so that profits from concerts can go to our charitable efforts.

If you are interested in joining, please contact the secretary at enquiries[at]southbirminghamsinfonia.com. If your instrument does not appear in the list above, please do contact us to register your interest and we will be in touch with you as soon as a suitable vacancy arises.

Places are currently available for players of a number of instruments, e.g. most string instruments, and possibly others including trumpet, trombone. Please ask!

We ask that prospective players play to grade 8 standard, or at least grade 7 with substantial orchestral experience. An audition is often required, e.g. for wind players. We will provide more information about this after receiving your enquiry.

You may be interested in the current programme for the SBS, details that are confirmed can be found on other pages on this site such as the future concerts page. (Note that in 2015-16 we have three concerts planned instead of our usual two which means a reduced reheasal time of about 10 weeks for each.) By all means contact us for more information. We are happy to consider membership on a "trial" basis. Do get in touch and tell us about yourself and we will get in touch back if there is a vacancy for this concert, and will let you know any details of any auditions that might be required, etc.

These SBS web pages contain much more information of interest to future members. Note particularly that rehearsals are on Monday evenings in school term time and all players are expected to attend all rehearsals and contribute their subscription.
